Assignment Requirements:
This writing assignment requires you to watch a film, “Enron: Smartest Guys in the Room,”
(Gibney, 2005) and then respond to the following questions about the content of the film.
The documentary itself is available for rental from Youtube, Amazon Prime or Google Play.
Students may also obtain a copy of this documentary from another source.
This assignment is worth 100 points. To obtain maximum credit, students should
complete this assignment by its due date. Your mini paper should be approximately 1,000
words or 4 double-spaced pages (12 point font, 1” margins), and should be submitted in MS
Word format through the Blackboard Assignment drop box.
Questions for Your Mini Writing Assignment
1. What was Enron? What was its product or service? (1 paragraph)
2. Describe what you see as the major themes or primary issues raised by the
documentary (1 paragraph)
3. Identify two to three business practices of Enron, describe the objective of these
practices, and analyze the ethics of each business practice, using an ethics
perspective discussed in Chapter 6 of the text or otherwise discussed in the
associated lecture with that material in unit 2 (2-3 paragraphs)
4. How would you describe Enron’s corporate culture, using the course materials from
chapter 7 of the textbook? How did that culture impact the decision making of
employees of Enron? Be sure to cite examples from the documentary. (2-3
paragraphs)
